"Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro appears to be looking for an off-ramp. Following months of intensifying military pressure—including what President Donald Trump described as a successful strike on a Venezuelan facility—the embattled leader stated Thursday he is officially ready to negotiate with Washington.
“The U.S. government knows... that if they want to seriously discuss an agreement to combat drug trafficking, we’re ready,” Maduro told Spanish journalist Ignacio Ramonet. He went a step further regarding the nation's vast energy reserves, extending an open invitation to American corporations: “If they want oil, Venezuela is ready for U.S. investment, like with Chevron, whenever they want it.”
The offer comes just days after President Trump publicly claimed credit for a ground attack on Venezuelan soil. In a Monday interview, Trump stated the U.S. had “knocked out” a coastal facility used to launch ships, remarking, “We hit them very hard.”
While the White House maintains these operations strictly target cartels, Maduro has previously characterized the campaign as a fabricated war designed to topple him. However, faced with blockaded tankers and a growing naval presence, his rhetoric has shifted from defiance to a plea for coexistence."
